Thanks to the characteristics of 5G networks, home education will become available for a lot of people who could not access it before. Others will be able to benefit from access to high-quality and novel educational materials that they were unable to use before due to their slow and unstable connections.
The fifth generation of mobile technology will allow a revolution in teaching methods – this new technology will provide students with the opportunity to learn with minimal teacher intervention, and instead be achieved primarily through exploration, discovery, and peer coaching. Applications such as virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) will play an important role in improving the quality of education and moving away from memorisation to understanding-based learning systems.
By combining VR and AR with the Tactile Internet, the learning experience will go far beyond the current one – re-writing the definitions of tele-teaching, tele-mentoring, virtual university, virtual classroom and virtual teamwork. 5G will also allow us to better serve students with special needs as cloud-based robots could be used as full-time assistants for students with special needs – helping them interact with both the educational environment and their peers.
