Jobs
5G will likely stimulate the creation of both direct and indirect jobs in many sectors throughout the European Union. Sectors that are directly involved in 5G technology, such as the IT, telecom, and 5G development industries are sure to see a direct impact – many jobs will be created within these areas to directly implement and sustain 5G. There will also be many sectors that will indirectly benefit from the technology as any major infrastructure investment, such as 5G, often has a snowball effect on the whole economy.
Forecasts predict that the implementation of 5G could create 2.39 million jobs (p. 7) in the European Union. The automotive, healthcare, transport and utility sectors will most likely see developments in the job market early on. In Europe alone, the yearly societal benefits may reach €113.1 billion (p. 8). Other sectors that are expected to benefit from 5G include the gaming, media and advertising industries. Unfortunately, there is potential for some jobs to disappear due to the wider trend of process automatisation.
